From what appears to be a last minute decision, the online pass in Hitman: Absolution is going to be free. In North America, you have nothing to worry about. The online Contracts mode will be unlocked without impediment. No slip of paper, no dozen character code, no data entry.
Strange is that European players will have the option of entering the code, or simply downloading the pass from their chosen digital marketplace at no charge. So no, there is no reason for the code to be in the box, and it seems like someone must have screwed up late in the game. Why spend the money to print the codes otherwise?
Publisher Square Enix is showing some intent here, but pulling it back for reasons that are unclear. Whatever the case, it’s one less hurdle for consumers to jump through to play their games.
